Our Adoption Process

Thank you for considering adoption! Below is our step-by-step adoption process. Please read it carefully before applying. We are a small, volunteer-run organization doing our best to match animals with loving homes.

1. Submit an Adoption Application (Required First Step)

You must submit an adoption application before meeting any animal.
We are not able to arrange meet & greets, answer specific animal questions, or discuss suitability until an application has been received. This helps us prioritize the wellbeing of the animals in our care and ensures the best match for both humans and pets.

2. Please Be Patient With Us

We are a very small, volunteer-run rescue and receive a high volume of applications, especially for popular animals like puppies and kittens. We review applications one by one to avoid getting anyone’s hopes up and to give each one the attention it deserves. This can take time, so we really appreciate your patience and understanding.

3. We Will Contact Successful Applicants

Due to limited resources, we are only able to contact applicants who are a good match for the animal they applied for. If you don’t hear from us, it doesn’t mean you aren’t a great home. It just means we may have found a better match for that specific animal.

If you’d like to apply for a different animal later, you do not need to fill out a new application. Just email us with your name and let us know who you’re interested in next time.

4. Meet & Greets

If your application is a good match, we’ll invite you to meet the animal.

For puppies and kittens, we’ll arrange for you to meet the whole litter. Most people end up falling in love with someone different than the one they originally applied for. After meeting them, we’ll help find the best match for you.

For adult animals, Meet & Greets are usually with the specific animal you applied for.

5. Final Step: Adoption Appointment

If the Meet & Greet goes well and everyone agrees it’s a good fit, we’ll schedule an Adoption Appointment. This includes:

  • Reviewing and signing the adoption contract
  • Going over the animal’s medical history and upcoming needs
  • Answering any final questions
  • Paying the adoption fee (see below)

Once everything is complete, you’ll be able to bring your new family member home.

Adoption Fees

Your adoption fee helps cover the cost of medical care, food, supplies, and other essentials while your new pet is in our care.

  • Puppy (under 1 year): $500
  • Adult Dog: $350
  • Senior Dog (8+ years): $250
  • Kitten (under 1 year): $300
  • Adult Cat: $250
  • Senior Cat (8+ years): $175

What’s Included in the Adoption Fee

Our adoption fees are comprehensive and cover a range of vital services to ensure every animal goes home healthy, safe, and ready for their next chapter.

  • Full Veterinary Exam
Every animal receives a thorough health check by one of our trusted local veterinary partners shortly after entering our care.
  • Up-to-Date Core Vaccinations
Dogs are vaccinated with Da2PP and cats with FVRCP to protect them from common but serious illnesses.
  • Spay or Neuter Surgery
All adult animals are spayed or neutered before adoption.
For puppies and kittens, spay or neuter is still included in the adoption fee and is organized by us when they are old enough. The surgery is performed by one of our local partner vets, and we will coordinate the appointment directly with you.
  • Regular Parasite Control
We provide ongoing parasite prevention and treatment for conditions like intestinal worms, fleas, lice, and more while animals are in our care.
  • Additional Medical Treatment if Needed
If a vet determines that an animal requires further care, we ensure they receive the necessary treatment and support before adoption.

Our goal is to set every animal up for a happy, healthy life in their new home. By adopting, you’re not only giving them a second chance—you’re also helping us save the next one.

Important Information for Adopters

01 – Timely Adoption

Adopters should be prepared to bring their new dog or cat home shortly after applying, as animals listed on our website are ready for adoption. We regret to inform you that we are unable to reserve or hold animals for any duration. Although for some adult dogs & cats we are happy to arrange a foster to adopt situation to ensure the right fit. Kittens & Puppies are not available for foster to adopt.

02 – Meet & Greets

Meet and greets take place at our shelter in Pemberton, contingent on the availability of our team and the coordination of animals currently in foster homes. We appreciate your understanding, patience, and flexibility as we organize meetings to ensure a suitable match. Meet and greets are by appointment only. You will not be able to meet any of our animals without first submitting an application.

03 – Application Persistence

If the pet you initially applied for doesn’t prove to be a perfect fit, don’t worry! Keep an eye on our website for future matches. Your application remains on file for one year and can be applied to any new pet of interest. Simply reach out to us via email when you find another dog or cat you’d like to consider. Unfortunately, we are unable to maintain waitlists or wishlists, so regular checks on our website and social media platforms are recommended.

04 – Puppy Recommendation

For adopters of puppies, we strongly advise enrolling in a local positive reinforcement training class. This step can significantly contribute to a successful transition for both you and your new pet. We recommend going to a trainer who has a BCSPCA Animal Kind accreditation. you can find the closest one in your area here: https://animalkind.ca/find-services/

Thank You for Choosing Adoption

Every adoption changes a life and makes space for us to help another animal in need. Your kindness and patience make a real difference.
